Repel Squirrels Out of Your Property and Keep Them Away

Squirell Control London

Although squirrels can look very soft, fluffy, and cute they can cause a lot of problems for your home and garden. They can chew into the electrical wiring and leave you without electricity and destroy your vegetable garden within days. In the UK there are many kinds of squirrels roaming around our houses. There are the red squirrels which are UK’s native species there are also the grey squirrels which are native to the American continent. There are around 150,000 red squirrels and around 2.5 million grey squirrels roaming around with great appetites and causing a lot of trouble, that is why they are also classified as pests.

Squirrels can cause costly damage to your property as they can chew through wood, plastic, rubber, and almost everything other than steel, much like their other rodent relatives rats and mice.

So, what can you do to keep the squirrels away from your house?

  1. Fortifying:

As we have mentioned above that squirrels can chew through almost anything except steel, you can try installing steel screens on your windows and repair any damages to the already installed screen doors and windows.

  1. Soap:

Rubbing soap around your deck and patio can keep they squirrels at bay, as the smell of soap will deter them from chewing their way in.

  1. Seasonal Checking:

Keep a seasonal checklist and check in all the nooks and crannies around your house for nests or burrows for the squirrels.

  1. Mouse Traps:

Believe it or not mouse traps can also work on squirrels if you suspect squirrels getting through an entrance install mousetraps to capture them this will deter other squirrels.

How to keep the squirrels away from your gardens?

  1. Plastic Netting:

Installing a flimsy plastic wrapping around you plants and vegetables will make it harder for the squirrels to climb onto them and into your garden.

  1. Keep the squirrels away from bird feeders:

Some people like to install bird feeders in their backyards to attract birds, but these bird feeders can also attract squirrels for a quick and easy snack. Make the birdfeeders as difficult for the squirrels as possible. It can be done by oiling the bird feeder posts so that the squirrels can climb them.

  1. Squirrel Nests in Trees:

Look for squirrel nests near your home in the trees, spray vinegar around those trees where you find the nests as the smell of vinegar can repel them and keep them away.

If the infestation grows you can contact your local pest control professionals and hire their help.
